The state is temporarily halting the massive State Center project in the wake of a lawsuit filed by downtown Baltimore property owners,  The Daily Record reports.

“The whole project is on hold. It could be two weeks. It could be two years,” Robert C. Brennan, executive director of the Maryland Economic Development Corp Robert C. Brennan, told TDR Tuesday night.

The litigants allege that procurement procedures were not properly followed and that the publicly-subsidized development on the west side of Baltimore will exacerbate vacancy rates in the struggling central business district.

Orioles owner and central business district owner Peter G. Angelos is not listed as one of those litigants, but the Record quotes a source close to his office saying that “he is paying for much of the lawsuit.”
