Sneed, Conaway, Van Bavel among City Council write-in candidates
The filing deadline for write-in Baltimore candidates to get their names on the sample ballot for the Nov. 8 General Election has flushed a few out of the woodwork.
• District 13 challenger Shannon Sneed, who lost by 43 votes to incumbent Warren M. Branch, has become an official write-in candidate. Sneed had appeared to concede in a statement on her campaign Facebook page, which was posted after her surprisingly close finish against Branch in the Sept. 13 primary.
But in an email to The Brew, Sneed said she is reconsidering because of the encouragement she found she had received after a short post-election vacation. “I just got back in town and I was really surprised with the overwhelming response from the community,” she said.
Sneed said she still hasn’t made up her mind. “If we decide to do this, it will really be based on the community,” she wrote. “I am waiting for a number of people to get back to me before it is official.”
• District 7 City Councilwoman Belinda K. Conaway, defeated by Reservoir Hill activist Nick Mosby, has also put her name in as a write-in.
• In District 10, incumbent Councilman Edward L. Reisinger will have two challengers: Pigtown community activist Adam Van Bavel and Erica S. White, of Claflin Court. Van Bavel didn’t get enough signatures in time to get onto the sample ballot, but has been publicizing his write-in candidacy online. (Candidates have until Nov. 8 to register as write-ins.)
• District 9 challenger Michael E. Johnson, who came in third against incumbent William A. “Pete” Welch Jr., has also announced plans to run as a write-in.
