Trespassing tailgaters caught in the act

Photos show Baltimore Ravens fans tailgating in prohibited area

Here are photos showing Ravens fans usurping the property of the Sharp-Leadenhall Elementary School (above) and the sidewalk at Solo Gibbs Park (below) last Sunday, Oct. 16.

Our story about trash coming from tailgaters was questioned by a few readers. Betty Bland-Thomas, president of the Sharp-Leadenhall Planning Council, released these photos of fans setting up coolers, grills and food tables next to the school and just a few feet from a sign that prohibits such activity.

She said the community has complained to the Maryland Stadium Authority about fans “taking over the area” for years, but has never made much headway.

“They put up a snow fence last year, but that was trampled down quickly,” she said.

Vernon Conaway Jr., director of public safety for the stadium authority, acknowledged that trash from fans is a problem.

He said security officers will patrol the park area before the next Ravens home game at M&T Bank Stadium on Oct. 30 – and will make sure tailgaters obey the law and trash is not left in their wake.
