Rawlings-Blake elected vp of mayors’ conference
Mayor Stephanie Rawlings-Blake is bringing home a new honor following her five-day trip to Las Vegas – election as second vice president of the U.S. Conference of Mayors.
The group, which concluded its annual meeting today at the Mandalay Bay Hotel in Las Vegas, named its new officers, headed by Mayor Scott Smith of Mesa, Ariz., and Kevin Johnson, mayor of Sacramento (and former NBA point guard).
Under the group’s rules, Rawlings-Blake is in line to become president of the organization in 2015.
This is Rawlings-Blake’s second trip to Las Vegas in a month. Her last trip became controversial when it was disclosed that she officiated at the wedding of Lisa Harris Jones and Sean Malone, City Hall’s two top lobbyists.
This is the mayor’s second high-profile national position. She was named secretary of the Democratic National Committee (DNC) in January.
