Maese doth protest too much

The Sun’s Rick Maese writes off the Super Bowl in the first paragraph of today’s column: “…as exciting as a Fran Drescher karaoke party.”

Ha ha. I wonder how long he’s been saving that zinger. Then Rick goes on to pontificate at length on something he thinks is really exciting – the NFL’s labor negotiations. Jeez, Rick, give us a break ! It’s the Super Bowl ! How jaded can a big time newspaper sports columnist be?

So, a bad day for the local news biz and for Baltimore. We’ve lost 90 jobs and lots of journalistic eyes and ears.

Honey, I shrunk the paper!

Print media court mouse demographic. "I like it!" said Stuart Little.Sun to lose an inch, the latest local print publication to downsize
By Joan Jacobson

The City Paper’s new design came out last week, looking more like a newsletter than the big, fat bulky tabloid we’re used to. In a month, readers of The Baltimore Sun will find their sadly anemic (not to mention bankrupt) daily paper shrinking by at least an inch in page size. Read the rest of this entry »
