Baltimore City schools have experienced a nearly 100% increase in teacher applications in 2010, compared to the same time period in 2009, The Baltimore Sun is reporting.

City schools CEO Andres Alonso told The Sun he thinks the increase in applications is due to the recently-ratified contract that changed how teachers are paid, basing raises on performance, instead of tenure. Alonso also noted that the contract may have played a role in decreasing resignations by more than 35%.
