Spotted in Canton: Mayor SRB checking out Charm City Roller Girls

Above: Mayor Stephanie Rawlings-Blake enjoying a little Saturday night roller derby. The Jet City Bombers (in white and blue, from Washington State) lost to the Charm City All-Stars.

Mayor Stephanie Rawlings-Blake picked a good night to come out to the Du Burns Arena and cheer Baltimore’s cruisin’, bruisin’ Charm City Roller Girls.

In the first competition of the evening Saturday, the Charm City All-Stars clobbered the Jet City Bombers, 292 – 77.

Sitting in the front row with her daughter Sophia (and a “Girls Night Out” entourage, according to her Tweet), Rawlings-Blake watched as hometown standouts like I.M. Pain and C.C. Bang Bang outfoxed and overwhelmed the Everett, WA.-based Bombers. (In other bouts, the Night Terrors, led by Blind Banshee, trounced the Mobtown Mods, led by Mya Bloody Valentine, 198 to 133. )

Hmm, maybe names like that would liven up the race for mayor, as candidates struggle to grab the attention of the jaded, heat-addled electorate. Here are a few more examples:  “Fistful of Dollhairs,” “Deathany,” and “Grand Theft Autumn,” and “Holden Grudges.”

We got a Tweet from “Grose Misconduct” pointing out that her name “is also awesome… It’s a Major Penalty that results in ejection & ‘Grose’ is actually my real name.” (She’s Chelsea Grose!)
