Sneed embraces write-in campaign, plans kick-off event

Former television producer Shannon Sneed has made her decision – she’s running as a write-in candidate in District 13 against incumbent Baltimore City Councilman Warren M. Branch.

After losing to Branch in the Sept. 13 primary by 43 votes, a surprisingly strong showing by a political newcomer, Sneed said many in the district and beyond encouraged her to keep trying.

In a statement released today, she said she is kicking off her campaign with an event on Tuesday Oct. 11 at 6:30 p.m. at  The Door, at 219 N. Chester St.  The statement included an endorsement by the third-place District 13 primary finisher, Antonio Glover.

“This is about the constituents of District 13. We need to start dealing with our problems in East Baltimore, and the first step is to elect a responsive councilperson who will work with the residents to make our communities more livable,” Glover was quoted saying. “Writing in Shannon Sneed is that first step.”

Vote totals in the primary were Branch (1,776), Sneed (1,733), Glover (693), Kimberly Armstrong (302) and Gamaliel Harris Jr. (69).

In her statement, Sneed answered the question she is often asked, following her victory over the politically-connected incumbent who has been representing the impoverished East Baltimore district: how did she do it?

“I simply went out and talked to the voters,” said Sneed. “I knocked on almost every door in the district, and I listened to citizens’ concerns. I think my message of a cleaner, safer East Baltimore with a responsive city councilperson really resonated with people.”
