Baltimore’s bibliophiles thronged the Pratt Library Saturday for the CityLit Festival, which featured talks by authors and exhibits by book sellers, small presses and micro-publishers like the flip book-sized literary arts magazine Artichoke Haircut.
Short story fans heard Will Boast read from his tale of polka bands in the Midwest, and Baltimore’s Boswell, Rafael Alvarez, from his tale of one man’s decision to shatter a marble stoop in order to make an authentic miniature for a diorama.
Jennifer Bodine lectured on her pipe-smoking father, A. Aubrey Bodine, the celebrated Baltimore Sun photographer whose works – often manipulated in the darkroom to produce dramatic results – won international recognition.
The festival was organized by the CityLit Project, founder Gregg Wilhelm’s effort to promote the literary arts in Baltimore through public events, workshops, collaborations and publishing.
