Shortly after The Brew posted a story today about his string of overdue water bills, City Council President Nick Mosby paid the amount in full.
The transaction took a matter of minutes through his electronic debit account with the city finance department.
His spokesman, Brandon Stoneburg, sent a notice this evening confirming that $1,035.99 was paid.
Neither Stoneburg nor Mosby gave a reason why the president of the City Council and Board of Estimates, who earns $138,000 a year, failed to make payments for the last 15 months on the house he owns in Reservoir Hill.
He was not fined by the city for his delinquency, but did pay a $4.78 service fee.
Running for Second Term
The Brew revealed a similar pattern of non-payments by Mosby and his then-wife, Marilyn Mosby, two years ago.
Marilyn Mosby paid the overdue water bill then, and later blamed her ex-husband for mishandling household finances, including a $45,000 federal tax lien, during her second federal trial on mortgage fraud.
Her “innocent spouse” defense did not convince the jury, which convicted her on one count of mortgage fraud.
She now awaits sentencing, while Nick Mosby is running for re-election as City Council president.
His opponents in the May 14 Democratic Party primary – Zeke Cohen and Shannon Sneed – are both up-to-date on their water bills, city records show.
