Marilyn Mosby, who was sentenced to home detention as part of her conviction for mortgage fraud and perjury charges, has asked for permission to travel between Maryland and California from September 29 to October 6 for employment purposes.

In a court filing posted after business hours yesterday, the attorney for the former Baltimore state’s attorney, says the travel is “specifically for required training and orientation with her prospective employer, whose headquarters is based in Livermore, California.”

Mosby “has received a tentative job offer – the details of which have been provided to Probation and the United States Attorney’s Office,” James Wyda wrote in a motion submitted to the U.S. District Court.

“Although the headquarters of the company is in California, Ms. Mosby will be stationed in Maryland required to travel to various locations within the District of Maryland on a routine basis,” Wyda notes.

“Before the offer is finalized, Ms. Mosby’s prospective employer is requiring her to travel to Livermore, California, for orientation, training, and in-person meetings with leadership,” the motion states.

“During this visit, Ms. Mosby’s employer will determine whether to move forward with an official offer of employment and, if so, will finalize Ms. Mosby’s title, salary and performance metrics.”

A proposed order was attached for Judge Lydia Kay Griggsby to sign. It was not clear today if she has done so.

UPDATE: Griggsby today signs the order modifying the conditions of Mosby’s supervised release to permit her to travel to Livermore, California, between September 29 and October 6. The order notes that an itinerary shall be provided to her probation officer and all “other conditions of supervision shall remain in effect.”

Wyda’s motion says Mosby’s probation officer and federal prosecutors consent to the request.

The U.S. Attorney’s Office has not yet responded to a request from The Brew for comment.

The motion also says Mosby has been fully compliant with the home detention condition as well as all other conditions of supervised release.

“She has not had a single violation, despite being on restrictive conditions for approximately 70 days,” Wyda claimed to the judge.

Marilyn Mosby stretches “home detention” to the limit – and perhaps beyond (8/29/24)

There does not appear to have been any request on file with the court for permission for Mosby to attend an August 24 outdoor party celebrating herself and her “hard-working team” in Howard County.

According to the home detention order, Mosby “is restricted to her residence at all times except for employment, education, religious services, medical treatment, substance abuse treatment, mental health treatment, court-ordered obligations, child care or other activities approved by the probation officer.”

Griggsby opted to sentence Mosby to 12 months of home detention rather than 20 months in federal prison – as recommended by prosecutors – saying she was concerned about the well-being of Mosby’s teenage daughters if she went to jail.
