Eastbound Druid Park Lake Drive to be closed at times this week

The closures are part of the project at Druid Lake to construct underground water tanks to comply with federal mandates

Beginning today through Wednesday, Druid Park Lake Drive’s eastbound lane will be closed for the removal of jersey barriers as work on the Druid Lake Finished Water Tanks project is performed by contractors.

The road will be closed to through traffic between Madison Avenue and Sisson Street from approximately 10:00 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. each day, with detours in effect, according to a release from the Department of Transportation.

“Signs have been placed in the area to alert motorists of the daily eastbound closures,” the release says. “Motorists traveling in this vicinity should be on the watch for changing traffic patterns and are encouraged to use alternate routes” and “are also encouraged to download the Waze.com app for live detour navigation.”

DOT’s suggested detour route:

Eastbound traffic on Druid Park Lake Drive will be detoured south on Madison Avenue, east on North Avenue and north on the Jones Falls Expressway to the 28th Street exit.

The orange-and-white barriers were installed in 2018 to create the Big Jump, a “pop-up” lane designed to accommodate cyclists as well as runners, walkers, wheelchair users and other pedestrians and to connect Reservoir Hill with Remington on the opposite sides of the Jones Falls Valley.
