Steuart Pittman, chair of the Maryland Democratic Party, notified petitioners this afternoon that he accepted the recommendation of the Credentials Committee to remove Ronald Rosenbluth from the Baltimore City Democratic Central Committee.

The brief statement noted that the Credentials Committee, meeting last night at a closed session, voted unanimously to remove Rosenbluth from his elected post “for a violation of the Maryland Democratic Party’s Code of Conduct.”

Members of the central committee raise money and register voters, but wield their greatest power in choosing nominees to fill vacant elected offices. Rosenbluth was a recurring member of the 41st District Central Committee and was voted to a new four-term in the June primary.

The panel heard testimony from 78-year-old Betsy Krieger, who said Rosenbluth verbally assaulted her while she campaigned on behalf of Del. Malcolm Ruff outside an early voting center last month and feared a physical attack.

The encounter, first reported by The Brew, began after Rosenbluth, a fervent backer of state Senator Dalya Attar, accused Krieger and other Ruff canvassers of being antisemitic.

When Krieger informed Rosenbluth that she was Jewish, she said he screamed, “I hate Jews like you” and “How many people did your family lose in the Holocaust?”

Three witnesses collaborated her account last night, sources said.

Asked to respond, Rosenbluth, the owner of a Pikesville pizza shop, told the panel “I don’t recall” shouting at Krieger and asserted that she had acted aggressively. He offered no witnesses to support his position.

Pittman said the committeeman will be removed from both the Baltimore City Democratic Central Committee and the Democratic State Central Committee of Maryland.

He can file a written appeal within 15 days to the party’s Executive Committee. “If this route is followed, the Executive Committee will consider the matter at their next regularly scheduled meeting,” Pittman stated.
