Maryland Historical Trust board votes against Little on Superblock
In a stern rebuke to their own director, Maryland Historical Trust members voted yesterday to urge Trust director J. Rodney Little to rescind a Dec. 22 letter he wrote allowing a development plan that would include demolition of historic buildings on Baltimore’s west side, The Baltimore Sun reports.
Expressing “strong opposition” to Lexington Partners’ $150 million mixed-use project, the Board also urged the Baltimore Development Corp., the city’s quasi-public development arm, to “stabilize” the former Read’s Drug Store building, the site of a 1955 Civil Rights sit-in, the Sun reported.
Preservation groups including Baltimore Heritage and Preservation Maryland have also criticized Little’s actions and called on him to nullify the Dec. 22 letter allowing developers to move forward on the Lexington Square project.
