Man on a wire
Can the new tourist attraction Nik Wallenda came to Baltimore to promote, the Ripley’s Believe It or Not Museum, possibly live up to Wallenda’s amazing promotional stunt today – walking across the Inner Harbor more than 60 feet above the water on an inch-wide wire?
Along with the stunning particulars of his feat – the wire was stretched 500 feet from the Light Street Pavilion to an apparently-not-entirely-stationary pole on a barge – Wallenda had history going for him as well.
The 33-year-old daredevil was reprising his great-grandfather’s stunt in 1973, promoting the Baltimore City Fair with a similar Harbor tightrope walk.
Here are some photos of Wallenda’s stunt taken by Baltimore photographer Bill Hughes.
