Police officers indicted by grand jury in death of Freddie Gray
Arraignment is set for July 2 in Baltimore City Circuit Court
Above: Officers charged in connection with the death of Freddie Gray.
Baltimore State’s Attorney Marilyn J. Mosby today announced the indictments of six police officers in connection with the arrest and death of Freddie Gray – a development that slightly revises the charges she announced in the case nearly three weeks ago.
Mosby, who made the announcement at a news conference where she took no questions, said her office conducted “an independent investigation” and presented the evidence to city grand jury, who returned the indictments this afternoon.
The charges were revised based on additional information discovered during the ongoing investigation, she said, noting that the officers are scheduled to be arraigned on July 2.
Van driver Caesar R. Goodson still faces the most serious charge – second-degree depraved heart murder.
Goodson is also charged with manslaughter, second-degree assault, misconduct in office, vehicular manslaughter due to gross negligence, vehicular manslaughter due to criminal negligence and a new charge, reckless endangerment.
The other officers – Lt. Brian W. Rice, Officer Edward M. Nero, Officer Garrett E. Miller, Officer William Porter and Sgt. Alicia D. White – also received additional charges of reckless endangerment, which carries a maximum five-year penalty.
False imprisonment charges against Miller, Nero and Rice were dropped.
